A field manual for FrontWars

Questions the client answers, and three it does not

Questions the client answers in one line, and questions only a session can answer. Each answer says which one it is.

The client's home screen on 2026-11-03: the JOIN NEXT GAME card for Europe with 19/98 players, Single Player, Create Lobby, Join Lobby and Community Maps, with the tutorial prompt in the middle.
What this shows the whole entry surface of the game: every question below is about one of these buttons, and this is what the buttons look like.Captured 2026-11-03Client v42.5Plate 1

Is it free?

Yes, on the browser, on the app stores and on Steam — the store page says so in its own words: "No pay-to-win". The client does show a cosmetic shop, an inventory and a battle pass in the side rail, none of which we tested.

Can I play alone?

Yes. Single Player starts a match against the map's default nation count and 400 bots, on Classic economy. Those three settings are read-only there, so you cannot lower the difficulty or switch the economy without a private lobby — and a private lobby will not start with one player.

Why did my second city cost 250,000?

Because the price scales with what you already own. First city 125,000, second 250,000 — measured, twice, with the build menu badge showing 1 at the moment the price doubled. This is the single most useful number on this site that the other guides do not have.

Do I need a missile silo to buy a nuke?

Yes. All three warheads sit behind the silo's 1,000,000 gold, so the first nuclear option actually costs 1,750,000 (silo plus atom bomb) and a MIRV run costs 36,000,000. The build menu will take the silo's money before it will listen to the warhead.

Is there a replay?

Promised on Steam, shipped in the client bundle, and not present on the end-of-match screen we reached as a signed-out browser player. See replays for the three-way evidence.

Why is my leaderboard full of Nations?

Because a Nation is a smart bot and every map starts with dozens. On World that is 61 of them by default, on Giant World Map 97, and the humans are the minority in any lobby you join.

Does the browser version connect to the Steam version?

The Steam page says the two share servers. We never played the Steam build, so this is a repeated claim, not a tested one — which is exactly the sort of sentence the four marks exist for.

Which map should a beginner pick?

One of the low numbers: Faroe Islands 6, Mars 6, Yenisei 6, Australia 7. The nation count is the only per-map number the client prints, and smaller means fewer fronts. Our register is sorted by it.

Why does a Port grey out when a City does not?

Because ports need water and the build menu checks the ground under the click before it checks your gold. Same 125,000 price, unavailable cell. Measured in a match where the city was buyable and the port was not.

What is Chaos?

A rules preset carried on public lobby cards, with modifier chips like +5M Gold or Instant Build printed above the map name. It is not an economy mode in the client, whatever the store page's list implies. We never played one.

Who writes this site, and does a native speaker check the French?

A browser, a script and an AI model, then a separate AI pass that re-reads each page against the client — the same four marks this manual prints. No native speaker has read the French edition. It is a full translation, self-reviewed and disclosed as such, and if you are a French reader and a sentence is wrong, the address is on contact. Nothing here is claimed to be native-reviewed.
